Family Fun With Foam Pool Floats

By Amanda Baird

At this time of year with the long summer days and children away from school people often wonder how to best fill the time. One way which is often used is a swimming trip, or a trip to a water park. Although the latter option might not be advisable if one in your party is a non-swimmer. The good news is that foam pool floats can help.

Gaining confidence in the water is the biggest hurdle, and these items really can help. These pieces come in a rainbow assortment of colours, so any child seeing them will naturally think of fun and games. As they seem to carry no threat a child will feel completely relaxed.

It doesn't take long for the child to join in with the fun in the water. One definite bonus with these new items is that they will not deflate when you least expect them to, unlike their inflatable predecessors. Thanks to the material that they are formed from they have a natural buoyancy, and consequently provide an ideal aid to someone less than sure around water.

On a long hot summer day the water looks so inviting. People are in and out of the water but those who are wary around water will often not get more than their feet wet, which is a shame. Some people get self conscious about using the old fashioned armbands and rings, but there are other options.

For the smaller children there are the buoyancy jackets. These jackets are lightweight and have different chambers into which buoyancy aids can be inserted. Gradually these can be removed so that the jacket is providing less of the buoyancy as the child grows more water confident. Eventually the jacket is empty but the child is happily unaware that they are floating on their own.

For the older child, or even an adult there are things called noodles. These are long but thin floatation devices. They can be positioned under the chest and held in position by passing them under the armpit. Several can be used at the same time depending on how much buoyancy is required. Now the person can enjoy getting more than their ankles wet.

These trips ought to involve more than just swimming, there is also the important relaxing. In the past there were the blow-up air mattresses. They have been superseded by rafts created with a vinyl coating, they come in a range of sizes. Some also have a built in headrest to ensure extra comfort. They can be used on the water or at the poolside.

For those wishing a day with minimum interruptions there are also floating trays. These are just smaller versions of the rafts. They will be big enough to be useful, but not so large that they get in the way.

It is easy to see just how versatile these foam pool floats are. With their bright colours they seem to invite fun. They are robust enough that you will be able to get plenty of use from them over the years. Even if they only help one person learn to swim that is one less potential drowning victim.
