It is also possible to score with side foot shots as well. In both instances aiming low and to the corner is often best as these are the hardest shots for goalkeepers to reach for.

Good coaches should cover this in their drills. Ideally the team should all be comfortable with the core skills. A good coach should also recognise that some players develop quicker than others. They should also discuss the various formations such as 4 4 2, 3 5 2 and 4 3 3. Each of these formations requires players to move in a fluid way, adapting when the team does and does not have the ball.
