Active Release Chiropractor Helps Patients Find Better Health

By Kathryn Neal

Like other doctors of chiropractic, an active release chiropractor offers conservative care to help patients find better health. The treatments offered with this kind of therapy are considered state of the art in the chiropractic field and help to bring relief from soft tissue damage. Patients are finding relief from many different conditions ranging from headache to shin splints. Although traditional chiropractors focus on the effect of spinal balance on one's overall health, these doctors also look at the soft tissues which can also lead to pinched nerves that are trapped by inflamed and damaged tissue elsewhere in the body.

Overuse of muscles is one of the most common factors in many of these conditions. The overuse of muscles can result in acute conditions from pulls and tears. Too much exercise may cause micro traumas or small tears. Overuse can also cause muscles to lack the oxygen needed for healthy conditions. Unfortunately, the individual may be unable to avoid these types of injuries.

As one's muscles heal they may form scar tissue that is thicker and denser than the surrounding muscle. Over time, such tissue can build making muscles weaker and shorter. The shortened muscles result in tension on the tendons resulting in tendonitis. Nerves can be trapped inside scar tissue resulting in a tingling sensation and muscular weakness. The reduced range of motion can cause pain.

Chiropractors have long worked on the premise fixing the underlying problem can bring relief of the symptoms it caused. Once they eliminate the underlying cause the body uses its exceptional healing power. The process can help to reduce pain while it restore's body motions.

The ART session involves both exams and treatments. Chiropractors discover changes in muscle texture, signs of tightness and evaluate tendons, ligaments and nerves. When problems are discovered, the doctor provides treatment by applying tension to the damaged tissue and instructing patients to make specific moves.

These treatments are unique to ART and not practiced by many chiropractors. In addition to the help that is provided through chiropractic for spinal problems, this type of therapy allows the doctor to address specific conditions related to soft tissues. Patients who have not found help through normal chiropractic may be helped through this type of treatment.

As with other kinds of care from chiropractic doctors, this therapy does not rely on surgery or medication. If patients have specific need that require surgery or medication, they are referred to other medical care practitioners who are able to provide the particular therapy. However, many will find that the noninvasive help provided by both traditional chiropractic treatment and ART will bring relief of their pain. They are able to avoid many of the unwanted side effects that other kinds of treatment may bring.

Chiropractors use a holistic view of health care. They understand that a problem in the spine may cause pain it the head, arms or legs. They also understand that soft tissue problems can cause nerve pinches that are just as debilitating as those caused by ruptured discs or other types of spinal impingement. Patients who see an active release chiropractor have the advantages of both types of therapy, chiropractic and ART.
